Ferry Dashboard
Backoffice path: backoffice/occ/ferry-flights
Available to roles: System Administrator, Administrator; Operations Staff has full access
Overview
The Ferry Dashboard provides a centralized operational view of all ferry flight operations. It is the primary interface for creating, monitoring, and managing ferry flights from within the Operations Control Center (OCC). Operations staff use this dashboard to track fleet movements, manage pilot assignments, and ensure ferry operations complete on schedule.
For detailed information on ferry flight mechanics, see Ferry Flights.
Dashboard Contents
Active Ferry Operations
The main view displays all ferry operations that are currently in progress. For each ferry, the dashboard shows:
- Aircraft -- the aircraft being ferried, including registration and type.
- Route -- the full sequence of legs from origin to final destination.
- Leg progress -- a visual indicator showing which legs are complete, which is currently active, and which are pending.
- Current pilot -- the pilot assigned to the active leg.
- Window status -- time remaining in the current leg's time window, with visual indicators for windows approaching expiry.
Pilot Assignments
For each ferry operation, staff can view the full pilot assignment queue:
- The priority order of assigned pilots.
- Which pilot is currently active.
- History of expired assignments (pilots whose windows elapsed without completion).
- Notification status for each pilot.
Creating New Ferry Operations
Staff can create new ferry operations directly from the dashboard. The creation form requires:
- Selecting the aircraft to ferry.
- Adding a public description (visible to pilots) explaining the ferry's purpose.
- Defining the route as a series of legs (airport pairs).
- Assigning flight numbers to each leg.
- Setting the Points reward per leg.
- Configuring the time window per leg (default: 24 hours).
- Building the pilot assignment priority queue.
See Ferry Flights - Creating a Ferry Flight for full details on each field.
Managing Legs After Creation
From the expanded ferry view, staff can manage legs after initial creation:
- Edit — Click "Edit" on any pending leg to modify its airports, flight numbers, distance, points, or time window inline.
- Add — Click "Add New Leg" at the bottom of the legs list to append a new leg to the ferry.
- Remove — Click "Remove" on any pending leg (with no active assignments) to delete it. Remaining legs are resequenced automatically.
Deactivating a Ferry
Staff can deactivate an in-progress ferry to revert it to Pending status. To deactivate:
- Find the ferry in the list (must be in In Progress status).
- Click the Deactivate button on the ferry row.
Deactivating a ferry will:
- Reset the current active assignment back to Waiting status (removing the active time window).
- Delete any active booking on the current leg.
- Reset the current leg back to Pending status.
- Preserve all pilot assignments in the queue for re-activation.
When the ferry is re-activated, the same pilot queue resumes.
Cancelling a Ferry
To cancel a ferry operation:
- Find the ferry in the list (must be in Pending or In Progress status).
- Click the Cancel button on the ferry row.
- A confirmation dialog will appear. Click Confirm Cancel to proceed.
Cancelling a ferry will cancel all non-completed legs and remove all non-completed pilot assignments. Any active bookings on non-completed legs will be removed.
Monitoring and Management
From the dashboard, staff can:
- Track real-time progress -- see which leg is active and whether the pilot is airborne.
- Monitor time windows -- identify legs where the window is close to expiring so staff can prepare the next pilot or intervene.
- Review assignment history -- see the full history of pilot assignments, including expired windows and cascaded assignments.
- Manage pilot queues -- adjust pilot assignments for upcoming legs as operational needs change.
- Edit ferry description -- update the public description visible to pilots from the expanded ferry view.
- Manage legs -- edit, add, or remove pending legs after ferry creation.
Ferry Status Indicators
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | The ferry has been created but the first leg has not yet started. |
| In Progress | At least one leg is currently active, with a pilot assigned and a window open. |
| Completed | All legs have been completed and the aircraft has reached its final destination. |
| Partially Completed | Some legs are complete but the ferry is stalled (e.g., all pilots in the queue have expired). |
